When buying a phone to traveling abroad there are many things to consider.  Does the phone use GSM or CDMA technology?  Does it have SIM card? And is it Unlock?  If you buy the wrong phone and go abroad it can cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars in roaming fee.  So what type of phone should you get if you’re planning to travel? Cell International Phone will help you find the best international cell phone.
When travel abroad you NEED a GSM phone.  In the United States there are two companies that provide GSM phone, AT&T and T-Mobile.  GSM technology allows for interchangeable SIM card.  While abroad, you can buy a local SIM card and put it your GSM phone, thereby you will not incur roaming fees. Non GSM provider, like Verizon and Sprints have World Phones, these phones have both CDMA and GSM technology.
Replacing the SIM on a GSM phone will not work on a different carrier unless the phone is unlock.  The easiest way to unlock your phone is to call your service provider and ask them to give you the unlock code.  Tell them that you are going abroad and you need the unlock code.  Some provider will give you the code for free while others will charge $25.  They will give you special instructions on how to enter the unlock code.

If you provider will not give you the unlock code, you can go through a third party to unlock your phone.  Just google your phone model number and name with the word “Unlock”.  There you should find providers who unlock your phone.   If you don't have phone, check out our Unlock International Phones.

Once your GSM phone is UNLOCK you are ready to travel.  Go to the local phone shop abroad and buy a pre-paid SIM card, put it in your phone and enjoy.
